Location
Senegal is located in the north-west of Africa and overlooks the North Atlantic Ocean between Guinea-Bissau and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
Climate
The climate of Senegal is tropical, hot and humid, with southeasterly southeast winds blowing in the rainy season from May to November. The dry season, which runs from December to April, is dominated by high temperatures, drought and monsoon winds.

The population of Senegal consists of several ethnic groups, the largest of which are Wolof, with 43.3% of the population; followed by Polar, 23.8%; Serer, 14.7%; Jola, 3.7%; Mandinka, 3%; Soninke, 1.1%; European and Lebanese, 1%; other ethnicities are estimated at 9.4%.
Religions
Most Senegalese people believe in Islam; Muslims account for 94% of the total population; Christians account for 5% (mostly Roman Catholics); 1% of the population practices local African beliefs.
Languages
French is the official language of Senegal, alongside other languages, the most important of which are: Wolof, spoken by a large population; Pulaar, Diola and Mandingo.
